Cooking

I love to cook! I grew up in a small rural community here in sunny Nebraska. I often cooked or baked as entertainment.

Whoever coined the phrase that “A way to a man’s heart is through his stomach” knew what they were talking about. I married my college sweetheart. One of the reasons he fell for me was because I could cook. One of the reasons I was crazy about him is because he liked to eat as much as I do.

In order to maintain our health, I will either pair healthy sides with a great rib eye steak or if one of those “red light” desserts is on the menu, we will keep our meals on the lighter side the rest of the week. Portion control is a must too. We used to each eat a 12 oz steak plus the loaded baked potato and, being in Nebraska, a large ear of corn slathered in butter. That doesn’t work very well if you are watching your waistline or just trying to maintain your health.

I know the jury is out on some of the sugars and other products we use. I am not going to grandstand here and say I never use the stuff, because that would be a big ole fib. Feel free to make anything that I do your own! I am here for the fun of it and I hope you are too!

Keeping it special doesn’t have to mean a 1200 calorie meal. Make the plate look nice or try a new recipe. That will tell them that you were preparing the dish with them in mind!
