Simple Thanksgiving Dressing is tender, moist, and seasoned perfectly to go with or stuffed in your Thanksgiving Turkey. Make it ahead for stress-free entertaining!
8cupsbread cubesI used store-bought seasoned cubes but homemade would be delicious too
½cupunsalted butter
1onionwhite or yellow
2stalksceleryfinely sliced
4cupschicken stockI use low sodium, fat-free
1tbspdried oregano
salt and pepper
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350 °F. Grease a 2-qt baking dish.
In a medium-sized saucepan, melt the butter. Add the onion and the celery. Sautee until slightly softened, 15 minutes.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the bread cubes and sauteed onion celery mixture. Add the oregano and stir to combine.
Slowly pour the stock over the bread cube mixture. Stir until the bread is saturated with the stock, the majority of the cubes have lost their shape but some are still visible. You want this mix to be thick and very moist. Add more stock if you need to. A lot of the moisture will bake out.
Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and cover it with a lid or foil.
Bake for 25 minutes and then remove the lid/foil and continue baking until browned.
Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Leftovers may also be frozen.
Notes
We've cooked our dressing in a crockpot before to free up my oven. Just make everything as required and spoon it into the crockpot. Cook it on low for 4 to 5 hours and then turn it on warm until you're ready to serve it. It's oven-safe so you can crisp it up in the oven if that's the way you like it. It's delicious either way.You can mix up dressing 2 days ahead of time and bake it the day you want it.
