Ingredient Notes and Tips

Letโ€™s talk about what makes these cheddar cheese muffins so delicious:

All-Purpose Flour โ€“ This is your base ingredient. Regular all-purpose flour works perfectly to give you that soft, tender texture you want in a muffin.

Sharp Cheddar Cheese โ€“ This is the star of the show! Use old or sharp cheddar for the best flavor. Mild cheddar or mozzarella will technically work, but they wonโ€™t give you that bold, cheesy taste that makes these muffins special. Grate your own cheese from a block instead of using pre-shredded โ€“ it melts better and tastes fresher!

Yogurt โ€“ Plain or Greek yogurt both work great. The yogurt keeps these cheddar cheese muffins super moist and adds a slight tang that balances the cheese. Donโ€™t have yogurt? You can swap it with sour cream in equal amounts.

Granulated Sugar โ€“ Yes, sugar in savory muffins! It balances the saltiness of the cheese and helps with browning.

Melted Butter โ€“ Make sure itโ€™s unsalted so you can control the salt level. Let it cool slightly before mixing so it doesnโ€™t scramble your eggs.

Eggs โ€“ Room temperature eggs mix better with the other ingredients.

Baking Powder โ€“ This is what makes your cheddar cheese muffins rise and get fluffy. Make sure yours isnโ€™t expired!

Notes

Notes:
โ€ข Store leftovers in an airtight container or a zipper bag at room temperature for 3 days. Warm in the microwave for 15 seconds prior to eating.
โ€ข Of course you can freeze these muffins. Allow the muffins to cool completely before placing them in an airtight container or zipper freezer bag. Freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw on the counter before warming in the microwave.
โ€ข These muffins are a great base for a savory muffin. Add cooked bacon, green onions, fresh garlic, or jalapeรฑo peppers for an added kick. Itโ€™s a fun recipe to experiment with.
โ€ข Try to stick with old or sharp cheddar. It will give the muffins some flavour. Mozzarella will technically work but it tends to be too mild for me.
โ€ข If you donโ€™t have plain yogurt, you could substitute equal amounts of sour cream.
