Whether you are celebrating a holiday or just need a cold treat on a hot summer day, this pie is the perfect grown-up solution guests and friends will find delightful and unique.

There’s nothing like a cool and creamy pie especially if it’s easy to make and can even be a no-bake pie. Boozy pies like this one and our Raspberry Daiquiri Pie are fun to make and serve. However, we can’t always serve boozy pies that’s when we turn to other favorites such as our Chocolate Cheesecake Pie, Lemon Ice Box Pie, and our cool and creamy Angel Food Pie.

Magic Margarita Pie Recipe

The reason we love this pie is because it’s cool and refreshing. You don’t need a celebration to make this pie. It’s perfectly luscious for any time, especially in those warm days when a frozen dessert is so refreshing. And, it really does taste like margaritas. If you like margaritas, you’re going to love this pie!

We love the crunch of the salty-sweet pretzel crust in contrast to the smooth and creamy boozy filling. You don’t need a celebration to serve this pie because a slice is like a party all by itself. It’s a party on a pie plate!

Ingredients

Please note, that the printable recipe card has the full list of ingredients, quantities, complete instructions, and nutritional information. The following is a quick overview of the recipe.

Ingredients for the Frozen Margarita Pie Recipe: green food coloring, brown sugar, limeade, tequila, orange liquor, condensed milk, butter, finely crushed pretzels, heavy cream, and finely crushed pretzels. Hostess At Heart

Crust Ingredients

Finely Crushed Pretzels. While we love the saltiness of the pretzels, you could use crushed graham crackers or cookies instead. If you need gluten-free pie, the GF pretzels will work perfectly fine.

Melted Butter. We use real butter in this recipe. You can use salted or unsalted.

Brown Sugar. We prefer dark brown sugar but it’s interchangeable with light brown sugar.

Filling Ingredients

Sweetened Condensed Milk. Do not confuse this with evaporated milk. They are not the same thing.

Limeade. This is from concentrate and can be found in the frozen juice section of your grocery store.

Tequila. I used blanco, the clear tequila. It’s less expensive than other varieties and there’s no reason to use a costly tequila. My rule is that if you can drink it you can use it in recipes. If it’s not something you’d drink, don’t buy it.

Triple-Sec. Or any orange-flavored liquor.

Heavy Whipping Cream. We use full-fat cream. The additional fat adds a smooth and creamy richness to the recipe. We’ve never attempted to use a Whipped cream topping such as Cool Whip.

Green Food Coloring makes this pie pop. You can make it as green as you want.

How to Make Margarita Pie

Make the Pretzel Crust

Preheat the oven. Combine crushed pretzels, melted butter, and brown sugar together in a bowl. Lightly grease a 9-inch pie plate and press the pretzel mixture into the bottom and up the sides. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until lightly browned. Allow the crust to cool completely before filling.

Prepare the Filling

Whip 1 cup of the heavy whipping cream until peaks form. Set it aside.

Combine sweetened condensed milk, limeade, tequila, triple sec, and food coloring. Whisk to combine.

Fold in whipped cream. Fill pretzel crust.

Freeze the pie until set. This takes approximately 4 hours.

Hostess Tips

You may find that running a sharp knife through hot water and then drying it off makes clean and precise slices.

Do not serve the pie before it is fully frozen.

Chilling your plates in the freezer for ten minutes or so will help the pie melt more slowly once it is served.

This pie can be a no-bake pie using a purchased graham cracker crust.

Substitutes for alcohol: There is non-alcoholic tequila, or you can use an equal amount of limeade instead of alcohol for a more family-friendly version. However, I recommend choosing another one of our delicious pies if you’re obtaining from alcohol.

My Inspiration for this Recipe

I came across this recipe for Magic Margarita Pie in my Mother-In-Law’s recipe box. I knew it had to come from a friend or publication because this isn’t something she would have developed, but after searching didn’t find this version. This Margarita Pie has more booze in it than the ones that I was able to find. Maybe that’s why it’s called Magic Margarita Pie!

  1. I just read the ingredients and it does sound like magic! Almost too good to be true and pretty easy to put together. Now I’m looking forward to getting invited to a pool party or something just so I can make and bring this. I’ll be the most popular guest!

    1. Thank you! It’s great and easy Angie! Since it’s frozen John and I ate the whole thing a piece at a time over two weeks!

  2. This pie looks great. I am currently working on some baking with booze – recipes and this was a great inspiration. Thanks for sharing

    1. Thank you Johanna! Baking with booze? You are my newest best friend! I’ll pop on over and see what you’re up to!

  3. It’s a magical pie so it must disappear quick Julie. I have a big weakness for creamy pies and any dessert for that matter (like cheesecakes). I never celebrate that holiday but my hairdresser told me to make her something as I am getting my hair cut on that day – May 5th I believe? Thanks for a great suggestion and recipe – all of us at FF appreciate it.

  4. Perfect for a dessert after the dinner on Friday Julie.. Sweet! Boozy! And good lookingly delicious ! โค๏ธ

  5. Margarita pie?! Heck yes!! I love Mexican food, so I always look forward to Cinco de Mayo. Given that I still haven’t shaken my fear of deep-frying, so there will be no homemade churros, this looks like the perfect dessert to top off the celebrations. This might even be better than churros!

  6. Mmm yum this pie is PERFECT !! My mom use to make a pie just like this when I was little called pink lemonade pie and I always love it.

  7. I love how the crust is made out of pretzels and the pie itself looks oh so smooth! It sounds like the two components compliment each other beautiful. This dish might just be the hit of the party! Happy FF, and have a fabulous weekend. ๐Ÿ˜€

    1. Thank you sweet girl! I think the salt in the pretzel crust made this a great Margarita pie too. I hope you have a fabulous weekend too!

  8. This Margarita Pie is surely magic. I love the texture of it shown in the picture – it makes me want to dip my finger in it. Besides, who doesn’t love Margarita? Let’s start the party! ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Thank you Freda! It is such a pretty green. I guess it would have worked for St. Patricks day too.

  9. What a beaut Julie! Loving that shade of mint green. So subtle and refreshing. Love the addition of booze in the pie ๐Ÿ™‚ This will definitely be tried sometime soon. It’s a little like the Key Lime pie that I make without the booze ๐Ÿ™‚ Roll on Cinco de Mayo. Just curious, after the 4 hours in the freezer, do you set it on the counter top before you slice? What if you make it the day before?

    1. Thanks Loretta! One drop of the Americolor gels gives it that beautiful color. You can definitely make it a day in advance. After it’s set put a piece of plastic wrap over the top of it. I think the booze keeps it from freezing real solid. I actually took it out and warmed a knife under warm water, dried it and cut the pie right away. I didn’t have any problem getting through it.

  10. Looks so tasty and refreshing, and love the mint color. This would be perfect for today’s weather in Seattle! Yesterday we just broke the hottest recorded temp. for Seattle for April since records started in the 1800s, with more of the same throughout the week!

    1. Thanks Dave! How hot is it? We have friends that we visit in Edmonds, and one of the reason I love it is because it isn’t usually horribly hot. Time to have some Margarita pie!

  11. P. S. I forgot to say I really like your new heading! It’s so fun and is just perfect for the name of your blog.

    1. Thank you so much! I really like it too. I had a friend do it, and she exceeded my expectations.

  12. I think my family would go crazy for this pie, Julie! We love margaritas. It looks so creamy and refreshing. I like the pretzel crust, too. Can’t wait to make this for my family sometime. Thanks for sharing it!
