Why Make Homemade Crackers?
When my friend Camilla from Culinary Aventures with Camilla suggested I try my hand at making crackers, I wasn’t sure what to expect. These taste out of this world! You’ll love snacking on these tasty crackers and be shocked at how simple the recipe is.
The recipe is incredibly versatile, one brushing them with oil, you can use all kinds of seasoning in place of the seeds to create unique and snack-worthy crackers. The only limit is your imagination. And if that is not enough, the fact that you can expect to impress your friends, neighbors, and party attendees with this treat. Wrapped in cellophane and tied with a bow, homemade crackers make a great gift too!
Ingredients for Homemade Crackers
Seeds. Poppy seeds. Caraway seeds. Sesame Seeds. Seeds to tend to go rancid quickly because of the high fat content. Make sure your seeds are fresh (purchased within the last six months) and store them in a cool, dry location. You can try other types of seeds for fun variation. You can even make Everything Bagel Seasoning!
Whole Wheat Flour. This recipe uses a combination of whole wheat and all-purpose flours. The whole wheat adds structure and strength to the cracker.
Extra Virgin Olive Oil. EVOO adds significant flavor to the cracker. You can also use butter. A more neutral oil can work but will have less flavor.
How to Make Homemade Crackers
Mixing up this cracker recipe could not be easier. Start by preheating your oven and getting three sheet pans ready.
Toss the seeds and salt together in a bowl with a whisk.
Combine the flour and salt, then add the water and oil and press the dough with your hands or a spatula until a crumbly dough ball forms and all of the flour is incorporated.
Divide the dough into three equal parts and form them into squares.

Bake and cool before storing in a dry, cool location.
