My sisters and I got together for an early Christmas celebration. We’re always trying out new recipes to share. I was really inspired to put my own dip flavors together. My grocery store had creamy gorgonzola that looked perfect. I also grabbed some dried Mission figs and a package of their sweet and spicy pecans. Do you create your recipes in the aisles of the grocery store? I’m not the only one that does this, am I?

I’ll prove that less is more with this simple recipe and trust me, it’s gonna knock your socks off. The steps are easy and the results speak for themselves.

What Makes Our Gorgonzola Cheese Dip Party Worthy?

An upfront gorgonzola flavor, with some savory green onion for a subtle contrast, a little fig jam for sweetness, and the perfect texture from minced figs and chopped pecans make this dip perfectly balanced and delicious. Sweet and spicy pecans sprinkled across the top give it a final touch.

Ready in just fifteen minutes, this dip can be made ahead (perfect for busy days that end with parties!) and will work with a variety of dippable accompaniments such as crackers, bread, or fresh fruit. It doesn’t even require any cooking!

Ingredients for the Gorgonzola Dip Recipe

Ingredients for our Gorgonzola Cheese Dip recipe: sweet and spicy pecans, garlic salt, green onions, fig jam, gorgonzola cheese, cream cheese, black mission figs, and sour cream.

While you’ll find the full ingredient list in the recipe card below, I wanted to highlight a few important ingredients:

Creamy Gorgonzola. You don’t want the crumbles for this recipe. Instead, look for gorgonzola in a tub.

Sour Cream and Cream Cheese. These ingredients form the foundation for all the other flavors. It’s what makes this dip dippable, smooth, and creamy. These ingredients also smooth out the flavor of the gorgonzola cheese spread.

Garlic Salt. I haven’t published many recipes with this classic old-school seasoning, but it’s exactly what it sounds like. Garlic and salt are combined into one mix.

Fig Jam. A more upscale jam than your typical fruit, this one has both sweet and savory notes and pairs perfectly with cheeses of all types. I love to keep it on hand for dressing up brie, hard cheese like manchego or cheddar, and of course, this dip.

Black Mission Figs. A sweet fig cultivar that’s easy to find and has more fruity notes. They’re also larger than other fig varieties.

Sweet and Spicy Pecans. You can get store-bought for this purpose. It’s easier and saves me time over making my own, and tastes just as good. Plus, we don’t need them in bulk for this recipe, and that’s when it really saves money to make your own.

Please note, that the printable recipe card has the full list of ingredients, quantities, complete instructions, and nutritional information. The following is a quick overview of the recipe.

How to Make Creamy Gorgonzola Dip

Combine the sour cream, cream cheese, and gorgonzola cheese with an electric mixer. Then stir in the remaining ingredients more gently using a spoon or spatula. Spread it in your serving dish and garnish with the remaining crumbled pecans. Refrigerate the dip for at least a couple of hours so the flavors meld. Have I mentioned how incredibly easy this is?

Hostess Tips

It’s easier to combine the ingredients if they’re room temperature or just slightly cool.

While we enjoy our gorgonzola dip cold, it can also be served warm.

Variations allow you to take this to several parties in a row without feeling stuck in a rut. Try one of these:

  • Add crumbled bacon for a salty element.
  • Fresh rosemary or thyme for a herby flavor.
  • A splash of balsamic glaze on top.
  • Substitute Bleu Cheese with feta, goat cheese, or camembert for Gorgonzola. Get the creamy version, not the crumble.
  • Dried dates or Turkish apricots instead of figs.
  • Pecans are my favorite nut for this recipe; walnuts, macadamia, or pistachios are delicious substitutions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between blue cheese and Gorgonzola cheese?

Gorgonzola is a specific type of blue cheese that originates in Italy and is actually milder and creamier than its counterparts. It’s the perfect cheese for those who don’t enjoy the boldness of blue cheese.

How to Serve Creamy Gorgonzola Dip

Because this dip is both sweet and savory, it will work with both sweet and savory accompaniments. Veggies or fruit can be dipped. Crackers – sweet crackers, salty crackers, plain crackers, or fancy crackers will all work.

Bread – crusty French baguette slices, toasted bread slices, or almost any homemade bread will work. I think you will love it with this Easy Focaccia Bread Recipe. It can also be used as a Gorgonzola spread if you provide a butter knife on the tray. You can even use chips for dipping — pita chips, tortilla chips, or a stronger plain kettle chip.

Best Way to Store Gorgonzola Dip

Even though it’s not required, this dip’s flavor improves if you make it in advance and refrigerate it after it’s made until you are ready to serve it, at least two hours or overnight. If you have any left after your party, it can be refrigerated and enjoyed for several days until it starts to separate. This dip cannot be frozen. This sound so delicious!!!
Almost sounds like something my grandmother used to make!!!

  2. Yes, I create recipes in the grocery aisle all the time. Those spiced pecans would make any dish sing. Trader Joes is a great place to create unless there’s a million people in the store, than just keep moving so you don’t get trampled. Why are we not neighbors? I would totally come to all of your get togethers.

    1. I know Tracey! I’ve met so great people here that I wish were my neighbors. Coffee would be an amazing get together!

  3. I am all too familiar with the self imposed time out!! 🙂
I love this Julie! The flavours just sound phenomenal and I cannnot wait to give this a go! I am pinning this. I love trying new dips!

  4. I have an insane passion for gorgonzola… In Montreal is quite hard to find it, but as soon as I’m in Italy I catch up with this lack! Your dip is very yummy…

    1. You could use blue cheese if that is available. When in Italy I love trying so many wonderful dishes. Lucky you!

  5. I do the same thing Julie except I come home with more ingredients than I need. You know, this would be good, or how about this – oh I might as well buy all three! Great looking dip 🙂

  6. Delicious combination of ingredients, Julie! Happy to hear you eventually found the perfect balance of ingredients. 🙂 (I too “create” while shopping… there always seems to be that one ingredient that screams out for innovation!) I need to eliminate one of my Christmas Eve appetizers and make room for this one now. 🙂

    1. Or New years? I was just telling Judi of auntiejuju that my pantry is a mess i’ve bought ingredients and have forgotten for what!

      1. Or both!?! 🙂
I have a feeling your pantry looks a lot like mine and don’t get me started on the contents of the refrigerator!
